La Gema Escondida is hidden behind an ordinary black fence (the Hidden Gem). The grandeur, architecture, and perspectives of La Gema are unveiled once inside. La Gema is the only property of its kind in Puerto Escondido, combining the conveniences and amenities of a boutique hotel with the solitude of a luxury villa. La Gema is set on one of Oaxaca’s most magnificent clifftops, and its new owners have thoughtfully and methodically reimagined the property.

From the comfort of the main sofa, visitors may enjoy whale watching, dolphins, flying fish, and a variety of birds while viewing the Pacific Ocean, adjacent beaches, and pristine azure waters. Guests are welcomed into the large palapa, which features a sunken dining area and main salon with local artisanal Oaxacan textiles and views of the infinity pool and Pacific. The home features a cliffside private jacuzzi, as well as different outdoor living and dining facilities (including a wet bar and parilla). The well-kept gardens feature a sea of pink and white bougainvillea, as well as natural cactus, palm trees, and succulents.

La Gema is also a dining destination. Antonia Aragon Ramirez, our personal chef, is the heart and soul of the house. Antonia’s culinary journey is rooted in Oaxacan culture and cuisine. Two meals per day (breakfast and either lunch or dinner) are included in the daily rate for guests. The menu was created to highlight Antonia’s abilities as well as the wide diversity of local food sources.

The “Plum Guide” and “In Residence by Pieter Brundyn,” two of the most influential platforms for premium holiday rentals, have accepted La Gema for listing. The Plum Guide lists La Gema as the sole Mexican property south of Mexico City. La Gema has five light-filled bedrooms, each with an own bathroom and wonderful views of the Pacific. The private master suite, with a gorgeous hand painted mural centered above the king bed, a huge walk-in shower with numerous shower heads, and an outside sofa and hand-woven swing on its terrazza, is a delightful location to wake up in. Individual air conditioning, personalized premium bedding, and bespoke bath items are available in each room.

La Gema can be coupled with Casa Nopal de Puerto Escondido, which features two identical two-story casitas and a private pool, to create a really unforgettable resort-style experience for up to 14 guests.
