Kimberley Locke, a former “American Idol” contestant and star, performs as Donna Summer with other elite international artists as the headliner. The cast of Norwegian Cruise Line’s (NCL) eagerly anticipated headline show, “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical,” which will debut aboard the brand-new Norwegian Prima this August, was revealed today. Norwegian Cruise Line is the pioneer in international cruise travel with a 55-year history of pushing boundaries.
The Tony Award®-nominated musical depicts the Queen of Disco during three of her most crucial career moments: Diva Donna, Disco Donna, and Duckling Donna. It tells the tale of Donna Summer’s prodigious journey to prominence. The cast who will portray Donna Summer through her most illustrious times in life has been revealed by The Brand:
Kimberley Locke, a beloved “American Idol” season two contestant, embarks on her first theatrical endeavor while at sea. She will star in the leading role of Diva Donna, portraying Summer at the pinnacle of her career. Fans will be able to witness Locke in this role with the same charisma that propelled her to the final three competitors on her “American Idol” season. In addition to her work in theater, Locke is also recognized for her work on television on the Broadway stage, where she most recently appeared in Kristin Chenoweth’s solo performance “For The Girls.”
Valerie Curlingford, a remarkable performer from the Netherlands, will play Disco Donna. Curlingford will portray Summer as she initially achieves popularity in the renowned 1970s disco era, when she is in her late teens and early twenties.
Summer will be shown by Duckling Donna as she grows up in Boston in the 1960s. D’Nasya Jordan, who most recently appeared in “Hairspray” as Little Inez, will take on the role. More than 20 of Summer’s mega-hit songs, including “Bad Girls,” “Last Dance,” and “Hot Stuff,” will be included in the jaw-dropping production, which will also provide fans a better understanding of the motivation behind some of Summer’s most iconic tunes. A first at sea, the 85-minute musical will see the Prima Theater completely transformed into a disco, allowing audience members to participate in the performance and live out their on-stage fantasies as they dance to Summer’s best songs.
With the previous debuts of “Kinky Boots,” “Six,” “Jersey Boys,” “Footloose,” and more across its current 17-ship fleet, Norwegian Cruise Line is renowned for its unwavering commitment to bringing Broadway-caliber entertainment to the high seas. This most recent addition to the Company’s lineup, however, is another first for the cruise industry. Norwegian Prima will also introduce live game show experiences that let the audience participate in the event and have a chance to win amazing grand prizes as part of its supplementary entertainment offers.
