Cruise Line Wins Awards For Best Ocean And River Cruises

Condé Nast Traveler also ranks Viking as the best cruise line for both rivers and oceans, making it the only cruise line in history to achieve this feat. Readers of Travel + Leisure magazine chose Viking® ( as the top spot in each of its categories for the 2022 World’s Best Awards, which were revealed today. Viking became the first cruise line to ever take the top spot in both categories in the same year when it was crowned the #1 Ocean Line for ships with 300 to 799 cabins and the #1 River Line. No other cruise line has concurrently achieved #1 in its categories from both Condé Nast Traveler and Condé Nast Traveler except for Viking, which is rated #1 for both rivers and seas.

Since 1995, readers have been invited by Travel + Leisure, the biggest travel magazine brand in the U.S., to vote for the best cruises in the world based on the following criteria: cabins/facilities, food, service, itineraries/destinations, excursions/activities, and value. The full results of the 27th annual awards can be seen at; Viking will also be highlighted in the magazine’s World’s Best edition, which will hit newsstands in July.

The announcement made today comes after a year filled with noteworthy occasions as Viking marks its 25th anniversary. The Viking Octantis®, the first of the company’s two specially built adventure ships, began sailing its maiden season in the Great Lakes in January. Viking Expeditions was also introduced at that time. Eight new Viking Longships® and a new ocean vessel, the Viking Mars®, were also welcomed by the firm in the spring.

By the end of the year, Viking will also have welcomed a second identical expedition ship, the Viking Polaris®, as well as a second identical ocean ship, the Viking Neptune®, as well as brand-new vessels designed specifically for the Nile, Mekong, and Mississippi Rivers. Viking was established in 1997 and offers excursions on lakes, rivers, and oceans all around the world. Chairman Torstein Hagen frequently states that Viking delivers experiences for “The Thinking PersonSM,” who he describes as interested visitors with interests in science, history, culture, and food.
