The Zaandam of Holland America Line is back in service in Fort Lauderdale.  Since the industry-wide pause in March 2020, the ship is the tenth in the fleet to restart. The Zaandam of Holland America Line returned to service on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, bringing the cruise line’s whole fleet back online.

The Zaandam carried passengers on a nine-day Atlantic Coast voyage to Montreal, Canada, which will keep it in Canada/New England until October. This is not only Zaandam’s return to service, but also a return to cruising in the Canada/New England region following a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Holland America Line performed a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open embarkation in the terminal, which was attended by the ship’s captain and senior officers, with flag-waving fanfare from crew members lined up to greet customers as they boarded the ship. After the repositioning cruise along North America’s east coast, Zaandam will spend the summer and early fall operating Canada and New England itineraries between Boston and Montreal.

On July 9, Zaandam embarks on the popular 35-day Voyage of the Vikings roundtrip from Boston, which visits Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, and the Netherlands, retracing the routes of past explorers. Following fall foliage cruises between Boston and Montreal, Zaandam sails roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale on the 71-day Grand Africa Voyage, which includes 25 ports of call, four overnights, and numerous safari experiences across the African continent.

Following the Grand Africa Voyage, Zaandam will spend the holidays in the Caribbean before embarking on a series of Panama Canal transits between San Diego, California, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in March, with two Mexico options roundtrip from San Diego. Next spring, the ship will return to Canada/New England.

Eurodam, Koningsdam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Nieuw Statendam, Noordam, Oosterdam, Rotterdam, and Zuiderdam have all returned to service with voyages in Alaska, the Caribbean, Europe, Mexico, the California Coast, and the South Pacific since Holland America Line resumed cruising in July 2021. Volendam is currently under Dutch government charter, and it is located alongside Rotterdam, housing Ukrainian families.

The relaunch of the fleet will be completed on June 12 with the arrival of the Westerdam in Seattle, Washington.
