Heathrow Airport: What are the U.S. travel rules amid growing concerns about the new Covid variant?

The United States has recently updated its travel rules since the new coronavirus variant began to spread.

The new Covid-19 strain, known as the Omicron variant, was recently found in the UK with cases in Brentwood in Essex and Nottingham.

As of November 29, the U.S. Government has suspended entry into the U.S. for noncitizens who have been in certain countries because of concerns about the new variant.

You are currently barred from traveling to the U.S. if you are not a U.S. citizen and have traveled to the following countries during the 14-day period prior to entering or attempting to enter the U.S.:

  • Botswana
  • Eswatini
  • Lesotho
  • Malawi
  • Mozambique
  • Namibia
  • South Africa
  • Zimbabwe

The United States is famous for its attractions such as the Grand Canyon, Disney World and the Empire State Building.

Although it is not possible to visit, if you want to travel to the US, you will need a visa or a visa waiver from the Electronic Travel Authorization System (ESTA) to enter as a visitor.

The Foreign Ministry’s travel council says: “Due to the continued impact of COVID-19, visa appointments at the U.S. embassy in London remain limited. Therefore, by making a single We recommend that you plan as soon as possible before your travel date.

“As of November 8, 2021, the U.S. government has eased travel restrictions for most foreign nationals who are fully vaccinated with any COVID-19 vaccine approved for emergency use by the United States. ‘World Health Organization or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“The British who plan to travel to the US from November 8, 2021 should familiarize themselves with the new requirements on the CDC website before booking any travel.”
