Start the season off right in North Dakota with some legendary seasonal experiences. With the weather gradually warming, North Dakota’s scenery and tourism experiences are ready to welcome spring and visitors eager to take advantage of everything the season has to offer. North Dakota Tourism urges tourists to enjoy the best of the state’s outdoor adventures, the start of golf season, and seasonal, locally produced eating in honor of the newly awakened landscape.

North Dakota, with its 13 state parks and famous national park sites, has the trails and outdoor experiences that truly showcase the season. Theodore Roosevelt National Park (TRNP), located in the state’s western part, is home to 70,000 acres of vividly painted canyons and miles of green hiking trails in the North Dakota badlands. TRNP has a comprehensive trail system to suit all levels of experience, and visitors can enjoy a free entrance charge on April 16 to celebrate National Park Week.

The park, which is rich in both nature and history, is divided into two big units by the Little Missouri River and the Elkhorn Ranch Unit, which is recognized as President Theodore Roosevelt’s North Dakota home. The park’s most frequented location is the South Unit, which is located next to the tiny, lively town of Medora. If you’re in the South Unit, don your hiking boots and head to Wind Canyon for a half-mile lap.

This short loop takes you along wind-eroded cliffs to a beautiful spot to watch the sunset over the badlands. The North Unit, near Watford City, is recognized for its rugged beauty and one of the park’s most iconic sights, Oxbow Overlook, which offers sweeping panoramic views of the badlands and the Little Missouri River for tourists searching for an off-the-beaten-path adventure.

Tee times are available for those eager to hit the links, and North Dakota’s vast open areas are excellent for golf courses with spectacular views and tough altitudes. Take the Triple Golf Challenge and enjoy some of the best golfing in North Dakota at three fantastic golf courses.
