Spring fever has arrived, at least in the United States, following the pattern of resurgent cross-border travel. With winter weather diminishing and flight restrictions in many areas relaxing, US visitors are seeking for opportunities to travel further afield this season. Travelers are also packing their suitcases for international places such as Porto, Portugal, and Whistler, British Columbia, Canada.

Trans-border travel is rebounding, with roughly 35 percent of global gross nights booked in the fourth quarter of 2021, up from 20 percent in the first quarter. Similarly, international destinations dominate the top 15 trending spring break destinations. Paris, which has always ranked first on pre-pandemic bucket lists, has risen to the top once more. This spring, the top trending destinations for US visitors are as follows.

  • Paris, France
  • Florence, Italy
  • Rome, Italy
  • Madrid, Spain
  • Whistler, Canada

Beyond folks in their 60s and older, as well as adults in their 30s, are leading the Live Anywhere trend this spring, adopting the nomadic lifestyle. This combination of retirees and 30-something individuals who aren’t tied to a desk are choosing to live and work wherever they choose. Warm weather and sunshine are the top destinations for long-term stays among older people this spring:

  • South Florida Gulf Coast
  • Phoenix
  • Central Florida Gulf Coast
  • South Florida Atlantic Coast

When compared to the previous spring, the number of long-term guests staying in unusual accommodations like RVs, cozy earthhouses, and tiny homes has more than doubled. In terms of bookings for the coming season, family travel is also on the rise. This spring, families are looking for sunny, warm beaches as well as theme parks and other family-friendly attractions. With that in mind, Florida is a key priority, accounting for half of the top family vacations.
