The recovery panel of the U.S. Travel Association with Tourism Economics data confirmed that Puerto Rico is a leader in recovery, with travel spending above state averages.
When comparing monthly spending, on average, the United States was about 11% below the same period two years ago in September. But spending on travel to Puerto Rico was over 23% above that mark.
Although eight U.S. states see visitor spending levels above 2019, they range from 1% to 9% more, while Puerto Rico’s visitor spending was 23% higher than the previous year. two years ago, according to the trade group.
Puerto Rico has the highest percentage of people fully vaccinated against coronavirus in the United States as of Oct. 19, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Golf is thriving in Puerto Rico during the pandemic, stemming from the intrinsic security and social distancing found in the game and on the island, according to the association.
